Wine Glass
by Jerpoint
Modelled on the Seventeenth Century traditional short-stemmed glass, the name “Rummer” is thought be connected to the German family name “Römer”, although many glass historians believe that the glass was in fact named after Rum.
Jerpoint glass is made at Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny employing the techniques and type of hand tools that have been used in glassmaking for many centuries. Keith Leadbetter, who trained in Sweden at the famous Orrefors Glass School, established his own workshop in the Irish countryside in 1978. He works with a team of ten skilled glassblowers. Each glass is individually blown and shaped from red-hot molten glass and finished by hand.
