David Freud, who studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art was inspired by memories of his fathers inter-war life in central Europe coffee houses. He opened a café-bar in Shaftesbury Avenue, England in an attempt to transform the coffee house culture in London. He also designs simple, modern, functional products for the home that further draw inspiration from this idea. He sees the past as a ‘library of ideas’ as evident in the Freud teaball and cafetiere that borrow art deco lines.
