Woodworker Josh Vogel is a man with a wonderfully calming approach to life. A sculptor and philosopher, we love how he talks about trees, his work, life. We came across this video a while back but the recent summer rains reminded us to share it. The film explores the idea that turning wood is a reductive process that in essence it is a step back in time. As the wood loses a layer, the years are taken away. Stories and time are a constant in Josh’s work, every time his chisel cuts into a piece of wood he is very aware of the idea that he is slowly revealing the story of the tree's life. He sees wood and trees as great teachers, we like that thought.
